Video Capture for Medical Devices
In the operating room, milliseconds are the difference between life and death, ultra-low latency is paramount.
A large number of operations, medical procedures and patient monitoring systems utilize real-time image capture, with live video often combined with overlays and annotations of patient data. Datapath’s range of capture cards are engineered specifically for environments where latency is critical and quality can not be compromised.
Powerful hardware scaler
Adjust the incoming video size to your requirements.
Datapath’s VisionIO hardware scaler enables a captured frame to be scaled up or down within a 4K x 4K range using a high-quality polyphase filter. The scaling process reduces overall DMA bandwidth by ensuring any downscaling is performed on the capture card before data is transferred to the destination. Any of the 16 MultiStream input clients can be up or down scaled independently.

Alpha blending capability
Overlay outgoing displays in real-time.
The on-board alpha blending capability allows a secondary source of frames to be overlaid on to the outgoing display in real time. In the operating or consultation room, overlays are optional so if any problems are detected the card will ensure the integrity of the primary signal by preventing the overlay from obscuring the live signal.

MultiStream Technology
Independently control multiple instances of a capture from a single input source.
MultiStream technology provides DMA support for 16 independent capture clients. Each client can have independent capture size (scale factor), frame rate, pixel depth, DMA destination and cropping rectangle.
MultiStream allows 'Preview', 'Capture' and 'Stream' clients with different bandwidth requirements to be supported from a single input source, without using the CPU.

Common hardware buffer timestamp
The Datapath hardware timestamp uses a common clock for both video and audio buffers. Hardware time stamping provides precise knowledge of when a frame is captured, allowing applications to synchronise multiple sources from multiple cards.

Unparalleled performance

Colour Space Conversion
An on-board colour space and format converter eliminates the need for user post processing. Vision supports a long list of formats including those most commonly used by hardware and software based video encoders such as NV12 & YV12.

Triple Buffer
Triple buffering prevents image tearing whilst allowing captured video to run at a user-specified frame rate which does not have to match the input frame rate. This is useful in high density systems where display capabilities and bandwidths can vary.

High Performance Data Transfer (DMA)
Fully accelerated allows high bandwidth video transfer without using CPU. Users get maximum system performance when running multiple captures in parallel, allowing scale-able systems to be built.
LiveStream capture
An alternative to Triple Buffering is LiveStream Mode. LiveStream effectively bypasses the onboard triple buffer allowing the very latest video frame to be delivered to users with minimum latency. For applications where only one client is required, LiveStream offers the lowest possible capture latency.

Comprehensive software development kits
Take advantage of the Vision features easily and quickly.
Datapath provide a SDK bundle including our own RGBEasy which has been optimised over 15 years. For off shelf compatibility with various applications, Microsoft’s DirectShow and Media Foundation is also supported.
Develop your software with confidence. Datapath's SDK is always built on previous versions ensuring backwards compatibility, meaning updates do not effect existing installations.
Outstanding user experience

With dedicated support personnel stationed in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Japan, Datapath are able to provide world class support when you need it most.

Datapath hardware is manufactured to ISO 9001 standards, each board is subjected to an automated solder paste inspection, automated optical inspection, x-ray inspection and an intensive production test. Components are chosen for maximum MTBF for long term reliability.

Fast start up time using the interfaces provided by Datapath, Microsoft and Linux.
Rich sample application available as standard fully demonstrates the capabilities of Vision capture cards.

Configure the capture card to force a particular input signal on the source. Importing and exporting system EDIDs allows for flexible system integration when moving to 4K UHD. The EDID can be displayed and configured in either 'Video Definition' or 'EDID' format.

Simply connect the input cable to start capturing. Signal detection is provided by internal driver algorithms assisted by physical hardware measurements. This provides high speed and accurate signal detection for all signal sources, including less common non-standard sources.

When used in conjunction with Image graphics cards, there is no limit to view-able encrypted video content.
Case Study
Any medical system employed should be capable of delivering any critical information to the surgeon on demand, and without removing focus away from the procedure.
Datapath developed a dedicated hardware platform to blend supplementary information directly into the live video raster using FPGA technology, with zero latency.
