Aligo related FAQs

  • Does the Aligo QTX100 have a loop through?

No. The Aligo TX100 single channel variant with four HD inputs does have loop through on its primary 4K input though.

The Aligo QTX100 is intended for ‘bulk’ ingest of high-quality video onto the network, and so would tend to reside in a system rack, rather than close to any loop through screens that are expected to be observed. Contrast with the Aligo TX100, which may well be used as a 4K ‘in-line’ encoder.

  • When using Aligo as a KVM receiver, how do I switch the receiver / screen(s) from one remote system to another?
Screen overlay will be supported in a similar way to Arqa allowing you to select sources directly.
  • Can the Aligo compression codec be turned off completely (at the expense of reducing the number of HD streams that can be carried on a single wire) if there is a requirement for absolute fidelity in the transmission of the signal?
Aligo compression codec cannot currently be turned off. The codec has been designed to be able to operate in ‘mathematically lossless’ mode, but since that cannot guarantee the compression ratio it makes it difficult to manage a general network topology without adding awkward restrictions. This mode will likely be something that can be exploited in specific applications with known and agreed routing requirements.
  • Does Aligo support ultrawide screens? (3440×1440, 21:9)
Yes. This mode is a pixel clock of 355MHz CVT-RB, and so falls within the capabilities of Aligo. Support for other specific modes can be determined by checking the pixel clock falls within that specified on the datasheet (600MHz). Pixel clocks for modes can be determined using an online video timing generator such as Video Timing Generator.
  • How does audio distribution work with Aligo / Aetria Workstation / Aetria WallControl?

Aligo audio capabilities are specified on the datasheet.

Aetria Workstation uses the in-built windows mixer to listen to audio from remote streams which can be enabled and selected via the interface for each source.

  • Can Aligo and Arqa sit on the same network/subnet happily without conflict?
Yes. Care is required to balance the topology of the switches – typically the 1G Arqa traffic remains on the 1G provisioning within that LAN, with little need for bandwidth on the uplink into the 10G section. But it remains a single VLAN for the purposes of Aetria Network Manager communications.
  • Can I use the Aetria API (eg from a Crestron controller or a Stream Deck) to change the remote system(s) that an Aligo receiver connects to?
The API will allow similar functionality to what is offered with WallControl 10 i.e. layout changing etc allowing users to focus on which sources go to which displays, rather than considering the specific device routing.
  • Will Aligo support point-to-point extension / KVM (no switch required)?

Yes, however, there are then no configuration options available. The primary input is just streamed directly to the receiver. The SQX stream is not available since it has nowhere to go.

  • How does an Aligo / Arqa receiver visualize H.264 encoded content?
H.264 streams are available either on an Aetria Workstation or a VSN wall controller via SQX decoding, but not on Aligo and Arqa directly.
  • What encoding profiles are supported by the SQX codecs running on Aligo devices?

The Aligo SQX profiles that are possible are as follows:

    • ADVANCED VIDEO CODING (AVC) H.264
    • HIGH EFFICIENCY VIDEO CODING (HEVC) H.265 (SPECIFIC PROFILE TBD)
    • HIGH-QUALITY MAIN PROFILE LEVEL 5.1 HIGH TIER 4KP30 H.264 ENCODING
    • HIGH-PERFORMANCE BP/MP/HP LEVEL 5.2 4KP30 H.264 ENCODING
    • FLEXIBLE RATE CONTROL: CBR, VBR, AND CONSTANT Q
  • Can an Aligo receiver decode and display SDVoE feeds?
No. SDVoE requires proprietary hardware so can only talk to other SDVoE decoders.
  • When using Aligo, how do we set up a system with Multi-Windowing?
The Aligo capture card would be installed into an Aetria Workstation, and all Aligo feeds are therefore treated as just another source similar to a physical capture source but coming in over the Dedicated high speed AV network. The same situation applies for a video wall.
